About

Our bistro is located in the heart of East Austin in a beautiful historical landmark building on East 11th Street. Home to Doc Young and his Drugstore in the 1920’s, one of the few owned and operated by an African American pharmacist. Hillside Drugstore closed in the 70’s, after many incarnations including a barber shop, a bookstore and Gene's Po Boys. Not much of the original drug store remained, except a small section of cabinetry behind the bar. The building was lovingly restored by the Hillside Farmacy team in 2011. In 2012 we received an award from Preservation Austin and 2019 the building was designated a Texas Historical Landmark and is still proudly owned by Doc Young’s family.

We are a husband-and-wife team serving a different kind of medicine, fresh, locally sourced food. Our menu highlights ingredients from Central Texas farms & Austin vendors, including Texas wildflower honey, locally roasted coffee, and responsibly sourced proteins from Texas ranchers and the Gulf. Surrounded by some of the region’s most productive farmland, we’re proud to support nearby farmers and vendors, many just an hour away, allowing us to create dishes & drinks that are fresh, flavorful, and deeply connected to the place we call home.

Join us for one of the best brunches in Austin, recently voted “Best Breakfast in Austin” by EastSide Magazine, or relax mid-week on our patio for a casual lunch. Planning a celebration? Reserve our private wine room for your next event and experience one of the most unique dining spaces in East Austin.

Whether you’re searching for the best brunch in Austin, a locally owned restaurant, or a cozy East Austin dining experience, we look forward to welcoming you.
